The Xmas Draw
The Xmas draw was 'drawn' out on Friday 30th Dec in the Clubhouse with a fine bunch of chaps who had had quite a day!... I will shorten the story down for your ease of reading but basically these golf crazy chaps had set off at 6:30 in the morning to play golf at the delightful Ganton GC.. Twas a very frosty morning and in high spirits with 95 miles to Ganton they went on their way.
They stopped at a café 'the dandy highwayman' about 28 miles short of Ganton to freshen up and no doubt have a bacon sarny, I think it was here that someone called Ganton to enquire as to the playing conditions on that day… No temp greens but no putting allowed was the answer..hit to the green then go and pick up and move on to the next.
Not impressed at paying £50 for a walk round our troop headed for the winter golfing mecca (not the bingo) Doncaster..Wheatley GC to be precise, well here they encountered a course white over with frost, on 18 temp greens and more surprisingly packed with golfers, it was here I am told that thoughts turned back to good old Wortley GC.. the ultimate in millionaires golf..
Sure we had a few temps ..all 18.. but at least they could get on and play. So after a 120 mile round trip starting at 6:30 that morning the crew arrived at Wortley at around 11 O'clock to a hero's welcome and a nice relaxed game of golf followed by food and being the audience and adjudicators for the Xmas draw 2016.
Thank you to all who entered this years draw. We sold just short of 1250 tickets and had 8 prizes to the value of £700. (Prizes are Vouchers to be spent in the Shop)

Lots of Winter League news since the last newsletter. On the 17th Dec we played the 5th event, this was won my Father who had a sneaky bit of coaching at Sandhill driving range on the Friday night and it paid off with his 38 points good enough to take the max 15 points towards the order of merit. David Cross continued his fine form with 36 points and we had a few first timers opening their accounts in the league who grabbed some points notably Doug Johnson who finished 5th and got 10 points.
