The year's busiest Weekend so far with St Patrick's Day on Sat and the Final Good Companions of the season on Sunday.
St Patrick's Day was as ever a mix of Irish themed attire, lovely cakes at the half way house and fun golf. The 666 format of scramble, Foursomes and Greensomes is always popular and 114 players took the course on a day of mixed weather which didn't dampen the spirits of those playing one bit.
The prizes for this event were given to the top 4 men's teams, Top Ladies team and Top Mixed team. There were also prizes for nearest the pin on holes 5 and 16 for ladies and gents and a special hidden holes prize donated by Captain Mark Charity for best stableford points over holes 2,4,8,10,13 and 17.
The Men's Prize was won by David Cross and Richard Silcock who had 43Pts a fabulous score when you consider David was using some old clubs he found in the garage and Richard was putting with a putter dating back to ….. well…. Old anyway!
The Ladies event was won by Pat Smith and Maureen Aitken with 38Pts.
The Mixed was won by Mick Carr and Sandra Carr with 33Pts .. I witnessed a seriously fine chip shot from Sandra whilst collecting the nearest the pin markers on Sat evening!
The Hidden Holes prize went to Jason Allsebrook and Chris Skubala with 18Pts.
The Nearest the Pins were won by Brian Gill and Nick Bowen and the Ladies winners were Margaret Hatfield and Alison Stenson.
A thank you to all the helpers who looked after the golfers at the half way house with drinks and homemade cakes and to all those who baked and made cakes and buns, it is very much appreciated and it makes these days much more enjoyable.
An evening of Irish food, music and drinks with entertainment provided by some of our more talented members playing instruments and telling jokes capped of another fine St Patrick's Day.
Sunday was another mixed day weather wise but golfers turned out in healthy numbers..even the ones who had enjoyed the Irish delights the night before were keen to play in the final Good Companions of the season. Realistically there were only a handful of teams in with a chance of winning the much coveted title but with much pride at stake 64 players turned out to do battle.
The winners on the day were John Richards and Paul Whitaker with a very fine 65.5 Full Good Companions Report will in next week's newsletter when all the results have been finished.
