Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly newsletter. In this week's email, we ask you whether you've noticed something different on your putter, we have our second video from Ian Poulter, and we discuss a fantastic achievement by one man and his caddie. Enjoy the read.

Pro's Comp

Last Saturday we had our tenth Pro’s comp, a perfect end to my first year as Professional at Wortley. Hard to believe it’s a full year since I started but the Calendar doesn’t lie. I would like to thank all the members for their support this year not only in supporting the shop but also the moral support and kind words throughout the year, which have helped and encouraged us lots. We look to next season and hope we can keep on improving our service to you all.

The Pro’s Comp ten was won by comeback kid Dave Stephenson with 40 points, close on his heels was Andy Hill with 38 points and Ryan Johnson with 36 points. Nearest the pin on the 16th was won by Barry Seal. We had 40 players enter what was the last qualifying competition for Summer Handicaps of the season so over to Winter golf from now.

Next Week the Winter league will start again with a similar format to last season with the points on offer going to the top 15 players each week. We will have a few special events through the winter to spice things up but this Saturday will be a Stableford.

I will be away next week on holiday and will be back on Sunday, 29 October, so look forward to seeing you all for the run up to Xmas…Scary!

The longest hole in history

We all love a challenge; beating a personal best or doing something outside of our comfort zone. That feeling of having achieved something beyond what we normally would.

In an attempt to raise $100,000 for children’s charities, one man and his caddie (subsequently joined by an adopted dog on their journey) set out to complete the longest hole in history; a par 14,000 carved out of difficult Mongolian terrain, culminating at the 18th green of Mt. Bogd Golf Club.

It took them 82 days to trek the 2011km hole, facing rocky ground, swamps, icy water and desert in the process – click on the link below to view their video. With only 134 balls lost – with one ball lasting 65km! – the man holed a nervy seven-footer to complete the longest hole in history in 20,093 shots, just the mere 6,093 over par. A really special achievement for some fantastic charities.
