New arrivals

It’s the time of year when we make many trips to the cardboard bin. New stock arriving ready for the golfing season that is. Well, almost upon us, I know we still have snow, ice, cold wind and temp greens but the optimistic golfer in us knows we are through the worst. Eeek, brave words and almost into the new golf season.

Last week we had over 20 boxes of stock and this week another 20 or so with new balls, gloves, shoes, bags and clubs all for you to try and buy, all to make your 2018 golf season the best yet! It is an exciting time of year with the anticipation of what’s to come, the shop is looking full of new stock and we have many plans on the drawing board for new challenges and competitions, coaching packages and demo days. Roll on Spring we are almost ready for you.

Winter Stableford 5

Last weekend we had the Winter Stableford 5 and with only one more event left, the competition is hotting up with playing partners Marc Whittles and Chris Goodchild battling it out for 1st and 2nd not only in the day event but also in the race to be the Winter Stableford champ.

Marc had a fabulous score of 44 points to beat Chris with 39 points into second place followed by Phil Wainwright and Tony Burgess who tied on 36 points. Marc is also top of the tree in the best three cards from six format Winter Stableford championship with 117 points after rounds of 38, 35 and 44 points. Closely followed by Chris Goodchild on 113 point after his best three rounds of 38, 36 and 39 points, lurking close behind on 111 points are Stuart Davies and Tony Burgess.

A new arena for golf?

Last week’s Waste Management Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour might seem like an ordinary event on the surface, but it has one particular aspect that no other event comes anywhere near to.

The 16th at TPC Scottsdale is turned into a sporting arena with grandstands lining the entire par-3 to create space for 16,000 spectators on the 163-yard hole, referred to by many as the Colosseum.

It’s easily the closest that golf comes to being played in a stadium like football or rugby, and the atmosphere surrounding the 16th is like nothing else on the golfing calendar. But don’t just take our word for it, watch this video of Matt Kuchar almost acing the par-3 on Sunday – just listen to the crowd’s reaction.
