Winter Competitions The Winter competitions are now all completed even if the Winter weather hasn’t quite got the message that we are done! The Winter League, Winter Stableford and the Good Companions all have worthy winners and tales of triumphs and disasters to go with them. We will start with the Winter League. We managed 11 Winter league fixtures in the 2017/18 season which given the terrible Winter is not bad at all, last year we managed 18 fixtures so that is evidence should it be needed of the tough winter we have endured. This year’s order of merit and Winter League Trophy was won by John Richmond with a total of 58 points. In second was Adrian Barnes some 13 points behind on 45 and tied third was Richard Williams and Steve Osguthorpe on 44 points. Prize vouchers will be given to the top 10 in the Order of Merit as well as spot prizes for best score, best eclectic and most twos over the season. Click here to view top 10. The Winter stableford winner is the player who returns the best 3 scores from 6 Winter Stableford’s over the winter period and this year the winner was Marc Whittles with 38+35+44 totalling 117 points, Marc won by 3 shots over Chris Goodchild with 38+36+39 for 113 total and in joint third place was Stuart Davies and Tony Burgess with a 111 total. The Good Companions, a pairs Greensomes Competition is also decided with a best 3 rounds from 6 format, Keenly contested this season with 5 pairs in with a chance to win with 1 round to go. In the end it was decided by 0.5 of a shot with John Richmond and Shaun Gregory beating Hugh Crawshaw and Malcolm Richardson by this narrowest of margins. The ladies had their own Winter League this year for the first time which was won by Carol Kelly with Janet Moorhouse a close runner up. These two also finished first and second in the ladies Winter Eclectic. I would like to take this opportunity to offer congratulations to all the winners and commiserations to all the runners up and hope everyone enjoyed taking part in these off season events. Let’s hope it’s a long balmy Summer and Autumn before we mention Winter golf again. |
