The Masters

Patrick Reed conquers Augusta National

Well The Masters was every bit as exciting as ever, especially when Jordan and Rickie started pushing Patrick Reed on the back 9 on Sunday. Some excellent and inspiring golf was seen and we have another first time Major winner in Patrick Reed, he doesn’t seem like the most popular winner, certainly Rickie or Jordan would have been most people’s choice, but maybe Patrick can win some more fans with this fantastic win. He certainly deserved it and played some amazing golf under the pressure of achieving a lifetimes dream. Will he go on to win many more?

Competition news

Meet the Captains

Saturday was the ‘meet the captains’ stableford and for once we managed a decent day and all 104 players (91 chaps and 13 Ladies) completed the competition.

The winner of the Gents event was Phil Wainwright with an excellent 40 points beating Mark Charity into second by 3 points. There was three players on 34 points, Stuart Sargent, Hugh Crawshaw and Jason Allsebrook. In the ladies event Carol Kelly was the winner with 29 points beating Sian Richardson into second place on 27 points who in turn beat Janet Moorhouse on a countback into third.

The whole day was a great success and everyone enjoyed celebrating the start of Mick and Val’s Captains year.

Will you be coming?

We have two demo days coming up at the end of April. We have Wilson coming on Friday 27th April between 11am until 3pm down on the practice area and we then have Lynx on Monday 30th April from 2pm until 6pm again down on the field of dreams. If you are interested do speak to someone in the Pro Shop and we can book you a 30 minute fitting on the launch monitor, always an interesting and who knows, maybe a beneficial 30 minutes that could help your golf in 2018.

No penalty

Golf can be a frustrating game at the best of times, but incurring a penalty stroke when you’ve accidentally done something wrong seems very unfair, especially when that one stroke could be the difference between getting a handicap cut or not.

Current Rules
Under the current Rules of Golf, if you accidentally nudge your ball while addressing it you incur a one-stroke penalty and must replace it (18-2). The only exception relates to if it is accidentally moved in the process of marking it. In this case, it must be replaced and there is no penalty (20-1).

New Rules from 2019
The new proposed rule (13.1c) states there will no longer be a penalty for accidentally causing your ball to move on the green and you must replace it on its original spot.
